With the first episode of the second season of Girls having just aired, we couldn’t think of a better artist to feature for Music Monday than Santigold. Her track, Girls, is featured in the Girls Sountrack Volume 1, accompanied by a trademark upbeat and seemingly home-made video of every-day women in New York City. Women young and old recite and dance to lyrics in the song, possibly bringing the anthem for gurls everywhere in 2013. You can check out the video below.
Santigold got her name from a friend’s nickname in the 90s. Her singles Creator and L.E.S Artists received internet media attention in 2007, creating a flame that would draw attention to her already blazing career. The 36 year old is often compared to M.I.A. “I can’t think of anybody who would be a better fit of somebody who I’m like…I think what’s accurate about that comparison is that she’s an artist who has loads of different influences…and is putting things together that’s unexpected and genreless,” she says.
