Tegan and Sara Quin are 2 lesbian twin sisters from Calgary, Canada. The 33-year-olds both play the guitar and keyboard, as well as write and sing their own songs in their band, Tegan and Sara. Their sound could be described as indie-pop, new wave and synthpop.
The sisters initially played without a drummer or bass player, and were called Sara and Tegan – which later changed because it was easier to pronounce. After winning Calgary’s Garage Warz they were signed to Young Vapor Records and have toured extensively ever since.
On the sisters’ 4th album, So Jealous, wide success came from their single, Walking With a Ghost, which was covered by the White Stripes. Since then the band has toured with artists such as Neil Young, Weezer, Jack Johnson and The Black Keys, and in festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, SXSW and Bonnaroo.
Tegan and Sara recently put out their 7th album, Heartthrob, which was declared number 2 on the Canadian Chart. Tegan lives in Vancouver and California with her girlfriend who she has been dating since 2008, and Sara lives in Montreal and New York with her girlfriend who she has been dating since 2011.
