Emma Watson was honored with the 2013 Trail Blazer Award at the 2013 MTV awards on April 14. She was humbled to receive the award and she thanked fans for supporting her despite her “awkwardness.” The following day Emma turned 23 years old and that topped off the amazing 2 days she was lucky enough to have!

The actress is best known for her role as Hermione Granger from The Harry Potter movie series and more recently in the movies: My Week with Marilyn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. She will also be starring in the upcoming movies: Noah and The Bling Ring. Emma’s movie career spans 14 years and she commented in her acceptance speech that “becoming yourself is really hard and confusing and it’s a process … It’s often not cool to put yourself out their  … amazing things can and will happen.”

Emma was introduced by not 1 but 3 of her past co-stars. First, by Eddie Redmayne from My Week with Marilyn who called her ” irritatingly elegant and kind as she is talented” then by Logan Lerman from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, who complimented her as being “present and so giving in every scene” and lastly by Jonah Hill who jokingly told her that she would be starring in the big screen adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey. Her recent twitter reaction is evidence that she truly was in the running to star in the E.L. James movie adaptation.

Emma was born in 1990 in Paris, France to English lawyers. She received her first role as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter at the age of 9 after starring only in school plays. Emma won many awards and made £10, 000, 000 off the Harry Potter Series. She then began modelling for Burberry in the autumn/winter campaign of 2009.  In addition to her plethora of movie awards from the time she first began acting, Emma has also won numerous modelling awards.

I believe that Emma and the characters she plays can teach gurls a lot about themselves. Emma demonstrates that young gurls can accomplish their dreams like she did as Hermione in Harry Potter. She also proves that dreams can be attained even when you start out with nothing like the way she became a star actress as a result of acting in school plays. Emma shows that no matter how awkward or weird people may think you are, you can still be successful nonetheless. Emma was teased for her awkwardness throughout her childhood and teenage years. She summed this fact up nicely in her acceptance speech and taught gurls that becoming who you want to be and accepting yourself is not an easy thing. It took her almost 14 years and eventually she became happy and at ease with herself. Emma also encourages gurls to put themselves out there, to not be afraid to go after what they want and to take risks because that is the only way you get the things you want most in life. Emma also comments that ” amazing things can and will happen.”

Judging by Emma’s career, she knows what she is talking about and it is important for gurls to listen to her honest advice. No matter where gurls are in life right now, there are better things waiting for those who care to go after them.
