Summer Time Style

I am one of those gurls who goes to her closet with clothes spilling out, then to her 2 dressers with more clothes spewing out and after trying on 5 outfits, decides she has nothing to wear but that’s not the truth at all. Having had to put myself on a tighter budget recently, I have come to realize that after organizing my room, I have a lot of great clothes full of summer trends. Due to my reduced clothing budget I find myself very carefully choosing pieces to enhance my wardrobe.

However, one of my new fashion rules follows: it’s okay to spend money on classic pieces such as blazers and dresses. But more trendy pieces are a great place to save money and shop around for a bargain. Secondly, I am dressing the body of a curvy gurl. I’m not plus size but possibly like many of you, I am not tiny and some of the trends that look good on my thinner friends do not suit me. When shopping for a curvier body it is important to choose pieces that are fitted and enhance your ultra-feminine figure.

One of the trends that I am in love with this summer is mint green. I am blonde haired and blue eyed with fair skin, so this color is perfect for me but it also suits many gurls out there with different complexions. I also love the maxi dress, which has come back in style this summer – it is a perfect, breezy, summery dress to wear on a hot day. I pair my maxi dress with my favourite Nine West gold, copper and silver flat sandals and some great silver jewelry that looks like old Roman coins mixed with blue beads.

Another trend I love is the retro bathing suit like the pin-up style ones that cover your bottom and accent your curves at the same time. They come in 1 and 2 pieces, but one of my favorites is this red one from I also purchased a couple of simple 2 piece retro swimsuits last summer from (they tend to have a lot of cute retro swimsuits for average-sized gurls and curvier gurls as well).

In general, I am also into cute, little, versatile summer dresses in fun, summery pastels and bright colors that you can wear when you’re just going around town, doing anything and everything. One great online shopping site is, where you can find soft jersey/cotton dresses that are classic, not too expensive and will take you from one summer season to the next. Lace is also a trend I have embraced. I adore how pretty and feminine this material looks.

As well, I think color blocked tanks are awesome to wear with jeans or under a blazer or cardigan for work. I like the balance of color and neutrality in color blocked clothing. It’s extremely flattering on many figures and better than a plain, old, black shirt any day of the week. Plus, these little blouse-like shirts can be worn in layers all year round.

Another rule I live by is always wear pretty underwear – it just makes you feel great! One of my favourite sites for pretty, fairly priced and a variety of sizes for lingerie is Their lingerie selection is unique and a little bit retro like the swimsuit I love. You can find great bras, panty sets, nighties, garter belts, shapewear, thigh high stockings and all kinds of neat underwear on modcloth, as well as some really cute retro clothing!
