1) Length. If you are pairing this top with leggings, you’ll want to be sure to pick one that a) will be long enough to cover your tush and b) will hit you in the widest part of your hip to ensure a beautiful flow and proper body proportion when you wear it.

3. Leggings

Leggings are an obvious, comfortable and easy to wear must-have for transitioning from winter to spring. Pair a simple black pair of leggings with a long t-shirt and add flats, platform sneakers or tall boots for a casual look. Tips for buying:

1) Are they sheer? Slide your hand under one layer of the leggings and pull the fabric across your hand, chances are if you can see your hand, people will be able to see a lot more and you may even feel a breeze. Aim to pick out a thicker pair before you even try them on.

2) Pick a comfortable waist band. Most people don’t bother to try leggings on at the store but it actually is important. Try to find thicker waist bands that will sit flat against your body and smooth you rather than give you unnecessary bumps.


4. Great fitting Jeans

Great fitting jeans are one of the most important pieces in a wardrobe. They can be worn casually with a t-shirt, professionally with a blazer or dressed up with a blouse, pumps and jewelry. They’re likely the most frustrating garment to find that properly fit, but once you find that perfect pair they’ll go a long way. If possible, you may even want to have jeans tailored to have that perfect fit.
Tips for buying:

1) The rise. This is the seam where you’ll find the zipper. For a flattering fit it’s usually recommended to look for a rise of 8″-9″ long. Not only will this smooth out your tummy, it’ll likely stop the unflattering curse of the ‘muffin top’ as the jeans will now sit properly near your natural waist.

2) The wash. Say yes to dark wash denim as the essential in your closet. The dark colour will make your body appear longer and leaner rather than draw attention to your thighs, hips or any other part that faded denims may attract the eye to. Add a dark heel to dark denim and you’ll have legs for days.

3) Waistband. Wide waistbands of 1 1/2″ – 2″ will not only feel more comfortable but also sit much more flat against your body.

4) The content. We all love the feel of stretchy denim but be careful not to go with a high spandex content otherwise half way through the day you’ll find them sagging. The content should say between 1%-3% spandex, with 1% being the better option.

5) The style. Straight leg or skinny leg is usually the way to go. I recommend a straight leg with a high rise. This creates a great fit around the midsection that will fit closely to the mid-thigh and fall straight from knees to ankle.
