If you’re anything like me, you’re definitely not a morning person. But depending on your schedule, you may or may not need to be up early regardless of this fact. Whether you’re looking for ways to increase your energy to just get out of bed, or to stay energized throughout the day, here are 3 easy and natural ways to make sure you’re ready to go without the use of caffeine and processed sugar.
1. Exercise regularly.
I know it doesn’t seem like something that should be at the top of your list when you have deadlines to meet and all you want to do is relax when you have the chance, but exercising for a half an hour every day actually increases your productivity. Whether you’re able to exercise every day or twice a day or once a week, work up to doing it often. This will regulate the circulation in your blood, improving your mood and making you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for the rest of the day. Whether you go for a run, take a yoga class or dance in your underwear, you’ll be jumping out of bed in no time – or at least crawling out a little less tired.
2. Drink a smoothie.
I can’t get over how much I love smoothies. Not only are they amazing health-wise, but they work as nature’s energy drink. Here’s a secret a lot of people don’t know: The sugar from fruit isn’t bad for you. In fact, you can eat as much fruit as you want and you’ll only benefit from it. Of course, this needs to be real fruit, not fruit juice from concentrate. If you have a blender and want to save money, my favourite smoothie to make is banana and strawberry with coconut water. You can even add cacao (not cocoa) powder to make it chocolate flavoured. But if you don’t care about cost and want something more convenient, Happy Planet makes delicious all-fruit smoothies. I drink their Coconut & Pineapple Fruit Smoothie regularly and it tastes just like a Pina Colada.
3. Take a cat nap.
Obviously sleep is important, but with a packed schedule and a stressed-out mind it can be difficult to achieve. If you were up late finishing a project before an impotant presentation and didn’t get much sleep, a quick nap might be just the thing that will shake you from feeling out of it to being productive again. If you work split shifts or have a few hours in between classes, don’t be afraid to nap during those times (just make sure to set an alarm). You may be tired when you wake back up, but doing a quick workout and drinking a smoothie will fix your fatigue right up and send you on your way to achieve global domination – or just your to-do-list that day.
It’s tempting to grab an energy drink, cup of coffee or a sugary treat when you’re low on fuel, but these things will only make you crash harder once the sugar high wears off. Using natural techniques ensures that your body is not only on par for when you need it to be but for the long haul.
